WHO WE ARE

Kostura Maria is a social enterprise that seeks to empower all Nanays, makers, and advocates alike, by intentionally creating elevated Filipino-inspired clothing and home accessories that celebrate a mother’s journey and showcase her love for family.

Inspired by motherhood

Lulu is the lifestyle designer behind this brand - a former banker turned homemaker. Taking her own experience as a working mother to becoming a stay-at-home mom and now a mompreneur, she is helping other devoted Filipina mothers realize their purpose and fulfillment at any stage of their unique motherhood journey.

"Motherhood is a life-changing and selfless experience for a woman, and we believe that one of the best gifts a mother could give to her family is a woman that has a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment."

With you in this life-changing and selfless journey.

We celebrate the Filipina mother and provide opportunities to empower herself by making and offering intentional and meaningful pieces that make a positive difference not just to her family but to her overall wellbeing as well. Here at Kostura Maria, we aspire for all Nanays to find their purpose and sense of fulfillment at any stage of their unique motherhood journey.

  • Paoay, Ilocos Norte Community

We love how cheerful our partner Nanays are from Paoay, Ilocos Norte.  Apart from being an agricultural province with locals usually fishing tilapia, catfish and ayungin, and planting crops like rice, corn and tobacco, mothers are extremely enterprising as some choose to weave to earn an extra living for their family.  This zestful disposition in life is evident in their sophisticated Binakul weaves with whirlpool kusikos patterns representing the waves of the sea and Kundiman weaves which are beautifully decorated with delicate patterns of diamonds, circles, cat paws and other geometric shapes.  Our Paoay Nanays take pride in their tradition of textile weaving, making sure they are well made and impressively beautiful, worthy to be handed down as heirloom pieces.  You may check our Abel Apron which are all made with Paoay weaves.

  • Santiago, Ilocos Sur Community

We are happy to work with the Pinilian weavers in Santiago, Ilocos Sur.  One particular thing we noticed from these women is that their makers are as diverse as the handwoven designs they create.  The weavers are lolas, nanays and even apos (grandchildren); three generations of weavers all together giving tribute to their art and livelihood.  They weave like they tell stories. The designs are representative of their everyday life – flowers, guava leaves, pineapples, mountains, horses, stars, crabs, the sea and fisherfolks to name some.  We are proud to work with these women who celebrate this unique form of craftsmanship and are eager to pass on their knowledge from one generation to the next.

  • La Paz, Abra Community

We celebrate the work of our Nanays who are part of the weaving community in La Paz, Abra.  Abra is mainly an agricultural province and families usually work in the rice field or raise livestock in their own backyards. However, the Nanays love to multitask and they usually have a loom at home so they could weave while looking after the household.  They make the Kantarines weave which are characterized to have colorful stripes and the Binakul weaves which have dizzying “op-art” patterns.  We are glad to work with mothers who are dedicated to nurture both their loved ones and their craft and we are here to cheer on their hard work.  You may check our Bahaghari Binakul Placemats and Kantarines Table Napkins which are made with handwoven textiles from Abra.
